Where the Line Is Drawn
This page covers what is not counted among the peoples: beasts, the things older than beasts, and the cases nobody agrees on. Who counts as a people and who does not is a political question in Idiriath before it is a natural one, and the disagreement is worth setting down rather than settling.
Peoples proper are on Peoples. A creature that speaks, bargains or keeps a grave probably belongs there instead.
Beasts
Animals of land, water and air: what is hunted, what is kept, what is left alone. Ordinary creatures need a line each, not a section each.
| Beast | Where found | Note |
|---|---|---|
| A beast | — | — |
| Another | — | Hunted for its hide. |
| A third | — | Kept, badly. |
Monsters
One section per monster worth the room. Copy the box on the right into each entry and fill the rows — a creature with no agreed range and no agreed weakness is usually a rumour, and belongs further down this page.
The First Monster
Replace the heading with its name. Give what is attested before what is told.
The Second Monster
As above.
Things Older Than Beasts
What predates the peoples and is still here. These entries touch Magic and Religions more than they touch natural history, and the cults will have their own account of each.
A line from a source, held apart, sits well here.
Disputed Cases
Creatures some peoples count among themselves and others do not. Name who claims what, and do not adjudicate.
Where a claim rests on one source only, mark it with a dagger, as on the Timeline.
Rumours
Things reported once and never since. Keep them — a wiki that only holds confirmed entries is less use at the table than one that marks its rumours plainly.
